Do you suffer from incontinence or prolapse ?
3 out of 5 women who give birth suffer from bladder leaks at some point in their life so you're not alone.
That is more than 3 million people in the UK alone.
A promising new solution has recently hit the market.
It's a pelvic floor exerciser called Femvaults.
This uniquely designed exerciser is a non-invasive, tech-free solution to strengthening your pelvic floor muscles.
Making kegels feel tangible and easier.
But how exactly does it work your pelvic floor muscles ?
In this article, I'll explain how it works and how to tell if Femvaults is the right choice for you to achieve a leakfree life.
Incontinence comes in many shapes and sizes, but the important thing to understand is that there are 4 types and in order to find the best solution, first you need to know which one is affecting you.
Stress Incontinence - is when you leak urine due to applying pressure to your bladder during activities such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping or lifting.
Urge Incontinence - is an occasional sudden need to urinate with large volume urine loss without the ability to hold it in. The type of incontinence can be very anxiety inducing for women who are out and about often.
Overflow Incontinence - is when your bladder does not empty properly so it leaks out unexpectedly. Perhaps you dribble urine all the time, even without noticing however this is the easiest type of incontinence to manage.
Functional Incontinence - as we age and mobility gets harder and harder, people with normal bladder control can have a hard time getting to the bathroom in time to relieve themselves.
Incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse commonly coexist. Up to 60% of women presenting with pelvic organ prolapse are also diagnosed with incontinence.
Unfortunately, incontinence does not heal by itself however it is something that can be managed. We will explore the typical solutions you can take to manage your incontinence later on.
Incontinence can happen for many reasons, including urinary tract infections, vaginal infections or constipation.
If you have incontinence which has lasted for months or even years, this would be due to your weak pelvic floor muscles which typically gets weaker after giving birth and as you age.
Your pelvic floor muscles act as a hammock which carries your bladder up right. When this muscle weakens, it causes uncontrollable bladder leaks, therefore the root cause of your incontinence is a weak pelvic floor.
Incontinence does not get better on its own. It only gets worse over time. So it blows my mind to why so many women choose to manage their leaks with temporary solutions such as:
Pads
Panty liners
Adult diapers
Although these solutions are effective at preventing leaks from showing through to your clothes, they do not address the root cause. Some of the downsides to using incontinence products are:
Made out of harmful materials such as carcinogens which is linked to cancer
Very bad for the environment (pads can take up to 800 years to decompose.... crazy!)
Disposable so you have to keep buying them over and over which is expensive
Not comfortable
There are even better management solutions like leakproof underwear which are a more comfortable and cost effective solution. No need to wear pads with these pants as they are designed to absorb 4 tsp of urine without giving off an odor. They also look stylish.
Femvaults (the company I purchased my pelvic floor exerciser from) even sell their own version of leakproof underwear.
However, they still do not address the root cause. Which means those bladder leaks will persist.
So what solutions tackle the root cause ?
Kegel exercises: are a great way to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and put a stop to those leaks.
However 1 in 2 women who do them, do them incorrectly and doing them incorrectly can cause further damage.
I personally found it quite hard to perform kegel exercises as I never knew how long I should squeeze for.
I also couldn't feel my pelvic floor muscles contracting when I did them as the exercise felt quite intangible.
Some of my friends who also suffer from incontinence found kegels easy to execute however they never saw any major improvement with their leaks.
This is because not enough resistance was applied to their pelvic floor through kegels to actually make it grow stronger.
Your pelvic floor muscles require adequate resistance to grow stronger, just like any other muscle in your body.
Which is one of the reasons why I love Femvaults so much which I will explain later on in this blog.
Pelvic floor physical therapy: visiting a pelvic floor physio is a good choice too.
The goal of pelvic floor physical therapy is to ease your symptoms via techniques and exercises which your physio will guide you through.
This would consist of kegels, trigger point therapy or electrical stimulation.
But let's be honest, physiotherapy can be very expensive and requires a lot of effort.
Especially for people like me who live in a very sparse village, the closest physio to me was a while away.
Surgery: is another option which can tackle the root cause and cure leaks for good.
However there is a risk that the surgery can go wrong and cause permanent damage. I also did not want to put my body through that stress at my fragile age.
While I was browsing for incontinence products at my local shop, a young lady named katy came up to me and asked if I have ever tried using a pelvic floor exerciser to strengthen my pelvic floor muscles.
My response was "I never even heard of one", feeling quite embarrassed to talk about my issue.
She then went on to explain that her mother suffered from incontinence for years.
So using her expertise as a gynecologist graduate, she decided to put things into her own hands and developed a pelvic floor exerciser during lockdown, which made kegels feel more tangible and easy for her mum to use.
And apparently it worked out well for her mum!
I was skeptical at first but she offered me an exerciser free of charge to try for myself so I had nothing to lose.
1 in 2 women who do kegel exercises cannot do them correctly.
This is because they cannot feel their pelvic floor muscles contracting.
A pelvic floor exerciser simply makes kegels feel more tangible and actually allows you to effectively contract your pelvic floor muscles.
Forcing it to get stronger and put a stop to those leaks for good!
Rather than zoning in on the vaginal, muscle walls like other pelvic floor devices, this exerciser strengthens the entire hammock of muscles that wrap around the pelvic region as well as the glutes and upper thighs in a more holistic manner.
You can use the exerciser by simply placing it just below your bottom and squeezing your bottom and pelvic floor together similar to how you would do a kegel.
There are 3 different positions you can use the exerciser:
Standing
Bending
Kneeling
The easiest and most effective position is the standing position which is the position I personally used.
Using this exerciser for 5 minutes per day, for around 5 sets of 20 repetitions for 3 weeks does wonders. That is when I started to see results and noticed that my incontinence pads were always dry!
Just like any other muscle in your body, your pelvic floor requires adequate resistance to get stronger and put a stop to bladder leaks. This pelvic floor exerciser addresses this simple fact with a resistance hinge controller, allowing you to increase or decrease the resistance to a level which suits you... genius!
One of the reasons why I was skeptical about this product was because it looked like it only trained your bottom.
But the gyn grad explained to me that the exerciser “kills 2 birds with one stone” as it trains your bottom and pelvic floor together.
It’s a scientific fact that a strong glutes can help with the management of pelvic floor symptoms.
If you are super skeptical like me, you can request for the medical research papers conducted on this product and Femvaults will provide it for you.
There are a surprising number of benefits associated with using a pelvic floor exerciser:
Aids prolapse: reverses the negative effects of prolapse as long as it has not reached stage 4 yet. You can find out this information from your doctor.
Become leakfree: tackle the root cause of bladder leaks and regain the confidence you once had pre incontinence.
Saves you a ton of money: 500 disposable pads for £100? Or 1 pelvic floor exerciser which may cure your leaks for £38.99? The choice is pretty obvious in my opinion!
Prevents prolapse from developing into stage 4: incontinence can develop into prolapse which can become irreversible if left untreated for too long.
By training your pelvic floor, you avoid this from ever happening.
Stronger glutes: stronger/firmer bottom = stronger pelvic floor. Look good as well as feel good.
After Katy (the founder) saw how much the pelvic floor exerciser helped her mums incontinence, she decided to open it to the public for other women in need and named it Femvaults.
Ever since she started selling the device to the public, she has had great feedback. Here’s what some past customers have said about Femvaults.
"I read the reviews and watched the videos for quite sometime before I purchased. When I first used it I couldn't seem to get the hang of it and seriously thought about sending it back. Re-watched the video and read instructions. Well I have to say this piece of equipment is amazing. Within a week I noticed a difference! So keep going and you won't be disappointed."

"Wow I never thought I would feel anywhere near normal again. Having to be near a toilet was uppermost in my daily routine. If I went out I needed to know where the toilets were and sometimes I didn’t go out. My bladder control was so bad but wow what a difference this amazing tool has done to my life. I’m a different person. So much happier, I don’t worry about going out and I enjoy my days. I’m so looking forward to this summer because Femvaults has changed everything. Brilliant!"

Here are some of the things which you should look out for before considering Femvaults:
- If you have a small frame or weigh 40kg or below, then this product is not for you as it will be hard for you to use the device as it is quite cumbersome.
- If you also have weak hips due to a medical condition such as a hysterectomy and you don't think you will have the strength to execute the exercise then this product is also not for you.
- If you have pelvic/back pain, we recommend you consult a health professional before purchasing Femvaults as they will be best placed to give advice that is specific to you.
- If you have a stage 4 prolapse or your symptoms have become irreversible then this product is also not for you. You can find out this information with a doctor or healthcare specialist.
If none of the above apply to you then I am thrilled to say that you can benefit from using Femvaults!
One of the reasons why I even tried this device in the first place was because Katy was kind enough to let me try one for free.
I fed this back to her and she kindly offered a 100 day leak free guarantee for customers so you can try Femvaults risk free.
She is so confident in her product that she is willing to provide a 100% refund (hassle free) if you feel like Femvaults has not improved your incontinence.
All in all, if you’re suffering from any of the 4 types of incontinence, I’d highly recommend trying Femvaults!
I believe it is a fantastic entry point to pelvic exercise and one of the easiest ways to tackle incontinence.
